Boeing 777-200LR from Zvezda

Postby UpperDeck » Sat Mar 19, 2016 10:49 am

Hello, this is my first topic here on A/CAM. I cannot pretend I was a long time lurker because I never heard of this forum. I am very glad I found it completely by chance, googling "airliner modeling forum" and it came as first position ;-) ! I just noticed the presentation topic, I will drop a few words asap.

I do not think the Zvezda 777 kit needs a presentation, I believe there are already a few reviews/photos here and there on the net, anyway what a nice kit ! It has everything, it is well molded, it is detailed, it looks to be accurate, it fits beautifully, it even has a quite decent decal sheet. I bought 2 copies of this kit along with the Revell E195 and the difference in overall quality is huge.

Mine will spot the imho very attractive Air India 777-200LR livery. I discovered that 26 Decals make a new decal sheet STS44264 that covers both 200LR and 300ER versions. I understand this sheet is traditional silkscreen and currently being reprinted due to quality issues. Anyway I am impatient to place my order.

The left fuselage part has been cut to the correct size, I removed 10 windows in front and 9 windows behind the wing :

The red rectangles represent the cut lines but they are barely visible due to bad lighting :

The green rectangles represent the window patches I had to do to restore the window count which is different from that of the 777-300ER. The 5 windows to be puttied, on the right side, are where the door 3L is located :

Sections ready to be glued :

The next photos are of the right fuselage part, everything was shortened to the correct size and ideally matches its left counterpart. All I am left now is correcting the window count. On the center fuselage section are the areas to be hollowed out, delimited with Tamiya masking tape, and on the 2 extra fuselage sections are the window patches to be saved, protected again with the tape :

Image

Here the areas have been cut out, the left hole is still not perfectly filed to the definitive shape while the right hole is ready to accept its window patch :

Glued in place, I now have to finish the other hole and glue the 3 sections of the right fuselage part :

I cannot wait for Revell's reboxing, I find the Zvezda decal sheet quite good but knowing the Revell decal sheet is being designed by Daco/Skyline, it will be as usual magnificent !

A big welcome Upperdeck :)

That's funny i was looking for a good Airliner modelling site also and found this site the same way as you did i am really looking forward to your progress as i'm looking forward to building one i love the nice tidy cuts you made in the fuselage
good work so far i think the 200LR is a cool looking jet with it's shorter fuselage big engines and raked wing tips.
I read somewhere the Revell boxing will also have the Boeing house colours but the Daco decal sheet will have all the usual great detail decals they are known for

Hello Lee, thank you for your message. Coincidence that you are from Perth, I am in Switzerland (split between Geneva, London, Dubai, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur) but my aunty, uncle and 2 cousins live in Perth, Wembley Downs.

Yes it is a wonderful kit and the styrene is easy to work on. I have a slight preference for the 777-300ER which I find better proportioned, or the regular 777-200ER with its smaller engines, anyway the Air India livery struck me and since Braz Models engines for regular 777-200ER and 777-300 are not yet available, it had to be a 777-200LR. I am not yet 100% decided on which livery I want to do, I really like Air India's but I am also a big fan of Etihad's new livery, already visible on a 777-300ER and a 777F but, afaik, not yet on a 777-200LR.

Hope to see your build soon.

Cheers !
