My Chrissy "doings"

So here is what I have been tinkering with over the Chrissy break.
It's a resurrection of a long dormant "curtain rail of doom" refurb project. She is a very old and sorry Hasegawa 1:72 P-3 that has seen much better days. She has had major parts of her fuselage hacked out due to being a donor model for another P-3 repair job many years ago. The missing fuselage pieces have been replaced with plasticard. Still a HEAP of work to do on her to get her back to some reasonable level of display standard.

And here is what I hope she will look like when I am finished

So......what is on your model desk over the chrissy break?????

Your P3 in "IRAN" is looking great so far mate.

Me, done exactly nothing until today. The model desk has had a nice layer of dust settle over the last few weeks - just been too busy with work and family stuff. Today is the first day in ages I've had a chance to look at the 262, which I'm masking up for paint right now.

Cheers

Don't forget some nose weight Ray,

I have 2 of these on the go, resurrecting a Shelf of doomer and a new build P-3B and both needed a fair bit of weight to keep the nose gear on the ground

OK.....so a little more work done on the NASA Orion project , and a slight change of plan.
Due to a number of factors I now intend to represent the NASA NP-3A below, as opposed to the previously-planned NASA P-3B N426NA as seen above.
Image
The reasons for the change in direction include:
a/ I have discovered that I have the decal set for this particular NASA bird (thanks to Knotty)
and
b/ This particular aircraft is really unusual and interesting
She is actually neither Electra or P-3 but rather a unique hybrid of both. She is in fact the first P-3 prototype originally built by Lockheed from an L-188 Electra airframe. Even though she looks like a typical P-3, she still has many tell-tale L-188 features including her original Electra short arse-end, (ie: no extended MAD boom "stinger"), Electra cockpit glazing arrangement, and many of her original Electra passenger windows.
To accommodate for the required Electra rear-end I have found an old 1:72 P-3-to-Electra resin conversion set that supplied the required adaptation. This has since been fitted, (although not a smooth fit by any measure :? ).
I have also prepared a stand for her as she will be posed "in flight" (the undercarriage was just too far gone to be recovered). This will adequately address the issue that Ray raised of her being a "tail sitter"
Here is where we are currently at:

Still MUCH to be done including detaching and re-attaching the tail planes, and much more bogging and sanding.
Unfortunately much of the fine Hasegawa surface detail has been or will be sacrificed, but that is just the nature of the beast when undertaking these major refurb/rebuilds.
Stay tuned for more NASA P-3 progress updates :D .

I'm not Ray, but I'd like to recommend the white primers from either Gunze (Mr. White Surfacer) or Tamiya (Fine White Primer). These are great paints with good opacity, great clinging power, and function as primers too. They can be used straight out of the rattle can, or decanted for airbrushing. I think they're available in jars as well. Either of those is all I use these days when painting large amounts of white. They provide a beautiful satin finish, but if you require a high gloss, either use gloss clear coats, or a couple of thin coats of Tamiya's Pure White over the top.

Looks like you've been a damn sight more productive than I in regards to modelling! Major thread drift alert, but I've been wasting time trying to fix a failed hinge on a tail gate/door on the wife's P.O.S Territory - what a serious piece of crap this car has been! What a way to spend time off - GRRRRR! I could have been modelling!

OK....so a little more progress.
She now has her Electra rear-end in place, with her tail planes re-attached, (what a bitch of a job that was :? ).

Now to get ready for a marathon milliput session.
@Adam my preferred white is airbrushed Model Master Classic White #1145
