1/48 Jetstream 31 (Spacemodels) Refurb

Postby VH-WAL » Thu Apr 28, 2016 10:30 pm

I bought this in a package deal involving 3 models for 25 bucks.

Image
It obviously needed a tailplane, so I scaled up a jetstream 3 view to 1/48 scale printed and cut a tailplane template out and rummaged around my spares looking for suitable shapes to arrive at a replacement tailplane.
As it turned out one of the models in the package deal (a piece of crap cheapo Qantas 747) proved suitable after cutting engines and flap track fairings.

I joined the two tailplane halves then with heart in mouth I cut open the fin and slotted the replacement in.

Now I have to scribe the elevator groove in, prime, fill any imperfections on the tailplane, paint it and the leading edge deicers. I have to carefully mask off the fin so I can repair the fin finish at the tailplane joint area. then glue in the new tailplane, fill and touch up the join area .

You are the scratch build/rebuild man Wally.

So will the Jetstream be in Flightwest colours again?

Good recovery Wal!!
Did you see my suggestion in reference to fixing the A300???
BTW Wal, if you didn't need them, I would be happy to take the remnants of the donor 1:250 QF 747 off your hands. I have a couple sitting on my shelf awaiting parts/refurb, and if you still have engines, control surfaces, stand etc, they could be very handy for this.

Hi Ray sure you can have what is left the fuselage is intact as is the tailplane, no fin both wings sawn up and 2 engines. As for the A300, I hadn't noticed your suggestion. I was not going to spend any money on a donor kit for it, I was just going to cast a copy of the remaining engine and make a replacement tailplane if and when I got around to it..but this model is not my cup of tea really...do you want that as well?... all yours

cheers

Hi Wal,
Thanks mate, I would be happy to take both the 1:250 747 parts and the 1:200 A300 if you don't want em.
We can work something out with the two Heller EC-121 Connies as far as dollars are concerned if ya like.
