Bloody hell! What an annoyance. Just in case you haven't, try decanting the Tamiya from the can and then airbrushing it for better control. I usually apply seven coats to get a fairly good white finish; two coats of Tamiya white primer, three coats of automotive lacquer I bought at Darby's and then two coats of Tamiya Pure White. I also rub back with Micromesh between coats, depending on how well the previous coat went. Keep at it, this is going to be one fine model when it is completed.
