So you can never have enough builds on the go, before starting this one last night I counted 36 parts started kits in view around the 'cave'.

As part of a club
Blitz' build that is allowed to take 2 months I started this....

Yes, the Minicraft kit has its issues and I will live with them. I am using a Draw Decal sheet and RR engines form a previously failed Kiwi Air Force build.

The NASA 757 was an ex-Eastern Airlines jet: Form the NASA website:

A Boeing 757-200 aircraft obtained by NASA in 1994 is now serving as a "flying laboratory" for aeronautical research. The aircraft is being modified extensively for a broad range of flight research programs in the next 20 years to benefit the U.S. aviation industry and commercial airline customers. Called ARIES, or Airborne Research Integrated Experiments System, the aircraft is being used to conduct research to increase aircraft safety, operating efficiency and compatibility with future air traffic control systems. It is a vital research tool in support of the agency's Aviation Safety and Aviation Systems capacity programs.

The 757 is continuing work begun by the NASA 737-100 in state-of-the-art technologies such as electronic cockpit displays, flight management systems and flight safety devices. The 737, the first off Boeing's production line in 1967, was decommissioned in 1997.

Ready, set go!

At the end of the evening, I had the main parts together, next will be to sort out a few seams

It might actually be easier (and certainly briefer) to write what is right with it! Suffice to say if you really want an accurate 757 there are always the Welsh or Accurate Airliners Kits depending on availability and how much you want to spend. I've got the Welsh kit and it looks quite nice.

The issue that really got me was from this Article :

https://www.airlinercafe.com/page.php?id=42

Quote :

"The surprise was that the whole fairing for the wings that sits on the fuselage was tooled in the molds sitting higher on one side causing one wing to be higher than the other. What a mess.

The only way to correct this in the future is to cut the tail off and the nose off and glue them on straight."

Ouch! But then again that might not be that much of a problem if you are cutting up two of them to stretch it to make a -300!

Yep, then there is the cockpit shape and tail shape (for which you can get aftermarket replacements ), so you may as well throw away the whole fuselage.

I have built 2 of these previously and they look like 757s to me with no mods...

Very nice. Especially the C-32A.

For full disclosure too I should have mentioned I have a couple of the Minicraft Kits :

American
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/minicra ... 00--167292

American Retro
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/minicra ... ro--121906

TWA
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/minicra ... wa--959802

I thought I had the USAF C-32A boxing :
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/minicra ... 2a--123609
but either I can't find it or my mind is playing tricks on me and I don't have it.

But you are right Ray they look like 757s to me but then again you are a bloody good modeller so no guarantee here that they'll look like a 757 if I have a go at one!

(... wouldn't get finished anyway is what Graeme would say - stuck on dropped flaps and never went any further!)

This looks as though it is coming along nicely.

I made the mistake of thinking I would save myself some effort by buying the Eastern Express 757-200, using some Ric Warcup decals to make an Air Nuigini one. It is not something I would recommend to anyone, as these pictures show. The engines are too dreadful to do anything about, so I'll have to hunt up some aftermarket ones.

Good grief those engines are terrible, but then the EE kit is a not very good copy of the Minicraft one isn't it?

Yes, I was going to mention copying. The Minicraft ones are not that best either, but a tad better than those!
