Revell 1/144 CargoLux 747-8F on the bench

Postby Fuzznoggin » Mon Feb 08, 2021 11:40 pm

I dove into this build with aspirations of only adding aftermarket flaps but ended up installing lighting and modifying the landing gear for an "over the threshold" runway diorama. Might have cut off a bit more than I can chew but the end result should look rather good. Led sizes vary from Pico, Nano, 1.8mm, and 3mm. Circuit board provided by Evan Designs. Final paint mix is Tamiya sky grey with white. I apologize in advance for just showing links as I cannot figure out how to display the images directly to the board. I'll put up more photo links as work progresses.

You certainly have dived in. The mods and electronics look very effective. Did you manage to find a grey for the scheme?

Yes. I did a custom mix of Tamiya Sky Grey with White in a large bottle. It's about as close as possible. The engine photos show the result. CargoLux was kind enough to get back to me and said it was Boeing Grey. Canadian Voodoo Grey is the closest but so very hard to find. So I took some paint samples I found online and came up with a close custom mix.

Nice to see you found the colour, A company here called SMS does Boeing Grey in their range, they have a point of sale in the USA, one in Florida:

USA Gundam Store
(US DISTRIBUTION PARTNER)
832 S. Nova RD Unit 100,
Daytona Beach
Florida 32114, USA

and another online:
The Gunpla Hermits Shop

Thanks for that info on the Boeing Grey. I'm ordering from them and the best part is they are just on the other side of the state. The 60ml's or so that I already mixed can be used for other projects. I'm going to go with the Boeing Grey!

Been a while but here is an update on the CargoLux 747-8F build. Finally, after all sorts of minor bug-a-boos, the first coat of Boeing Grey lacquer has been applied. Hopefully a few more passes tomorrow to complete the wings and fuselage, I can then airbrush the lead edge and begin installation of the leading edge flaps. Thought I might complete this by mid month but it looks more like the end of March. The base took some creativity and it has been scaled out to 1/144; including the markings. Photos taken today on temporary mount. Still need to install wing main gear yet. Wires will travel into the base for to power the aircraft lighting circuits.
More at a later date

Runway scaled out at 1/144:

Pitch angle is a bit high and will be lowered to between 2 - 7 degrees. Again, the mounts are temporarily installed

Finished airbrushing the Boeing Grey and buffed aluminum. Decided to do another light test so here she is. The stabilizer logo lights are still masked since I need to paint the center sections. Next video(s) should be better quality since I found the HD setting on the iPhone cam.
