Lockheed L-100-30 N2679C

Here is another resurrected build from the Shelf of Doom, it was to be a USAF ANG C-130J-30 but I have now repurposed it after becoming aware of a non-descript* looking L-100.

It is from the Italeri KC-130F boxing (which is basically a C-130E).

If you google N2679C L-100 you will see what I mean!

I started with basically this
Image

Some window filling later (as seen above) and the tail was attached
Image

Some more filling is required I think
Image

Since this L-100 is based on the C-130H model the kit engines need lengthening as the kit nacelles are short. I could use aftermarket fit-for-purpose engines but I am saving them for other C-130 builds
Image

Another 3 engines to do. The inboard extension will be a couple of mms shorter as Italeri staggered the outboard props rather than keeping them all aligned.

I also lengthened the port forward main gear sponson section by the same amount as the nacelle, again the H models have longer sponsons on both sides. The other side is yet to be modified.

Thanks Paul,

Round one of filling and sanding is complete, on to round 2

I also got the other outboard engine mounted and an initial round of putty applied.

Some more work on the L-100.

The inboard engines have been shimmed and fitted, putty drying at the moment
Image

I also started on the ECS intakes which are common to the C-130H. this kit is a C-130E which has the NACA-style intakes, the forward one was fashioned from box-shaped evergreen stock.
Image

The same was added to the sponson, the eagle-eyed among you will note the sponson extension is another colour, I found this one in my spares and modified it with the inlet.

Test fit in situ before shaping of the sponson intake was commenced.

Heaps of putty from the original attempt to add the fuselage plugs Paul, just a little more to get it looking a tad better

After lots of filling and sanding the fuselage is starting to look OK, there are still a few small blemishes to sort out after the latest priming session. The ECS intakes have now been reshaped and blending complete.

The inboard engine puttying has been tidied up as well, one of them needs a little more attention as well.

More work on the L-100, I have finished adding the antennas and other lumps and primed most of the fuselage.

I also broke out some AM exhausts and fitted those, they look a lot better than the kit ones
Image

I found some Electra props in a spares box and was going to use them here, but I think they look a little anemic compared to C-130 props. So I will relent and dive into the stash and retrieve some from another kit.

The decals have arrived from Pete M so I can push on to finish it.
