Some years ago I decided to build a model of all the aircraft I had worked on or flown in the RAAF. At the time there was no kit available of the Falcon 900 in any scale. I had heard of someone using the Hasegawa 1/48 Falcon 10 as a base for the build in 1/72. Turns out it was Fred Harris, Fred was kind enough to send me some copies of the resin engines he cast for his build. So I had a crack at it.



After a lot of cutting of plastic and filler, I got it to this state



Over the years it has got renewed attention as I realised shape issues or figures out how to tackle a problem I had been having with it.

So here we are again with renewed interest. I have again pulled it down from the shelf of doom and paid some attention to it.

This time around I am refining the stub wings for the engines an starting to add some detail.

So what is left? Scribing some detail into the wings, entry and baggage doors and the engine servicing panels. So I have started to pencil in some of the lines I have to add.

How far will I get this time, who knows I might even finish it this time around.

Very interesting project Ray....you truly are a "modeller's modeller".
You have worked wonders with this "Franken-Falcon". I did it the chicken's way and waited for a resin 1:72 Falcon 900 to be released, which it eventually was by VAMI Models, (in fact I think you supplied me with the RAAF decals for this kit).

I think Broplan also eventually released a 1:72 Falcon 900. Given our shared squadron history, I will be watching this one with much interest.

You're setting us all a very good example. I don't know that I would be bold enough to attempt something so hard.

The cheap version
Inside and outside of the 900. The fuselage pattern consists of two Hasegawa Falcon 10s. In the finished example the fuselage is a fibre glass shell laid up in a plaster mould. Engine intakes are turned and polished aluminium. Slightly modified kit wings.

Basic building/construction skills mate. Lots of dry-fitting and alignment of mating parts before application of glue. Use of low viscosity liquid glues helps as fewer 'tell-tale' signs remain after the glue dries. You can't avoid mastery of this if you are going to build credible military/civil/commercial aircraft models, especially those with natural metal and gloss schemes.

You're correct about the Broplan kit as you sold me yours when you got your resin one

This one is a long stalled commission build. I will build the Broplan kit for me later on.
