RHRPAF Aero Subaru

Postby erussell » Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:52 pm

Hutt River Province started as an unsuccessful tax evasion idea and morphed into a tourist attraction until it closed down this year. For some time the late owner, Leonard Casley, operated an Aero Subaru Fuji FA200 which was painted up in Royal Hutt River Province Air Force livery as Air Force One. Aircraft ownership is not unusual on the very large Western Australian cattle runs. The Subaru was strictly a civil aircraft and registered as VH-FJI. Searching that registration will bring up what are seemingly the only two pictures of it RHRPAF guise.

As a result of a discussion here….

….. I couldn’t resist building this one. The 1/72 kit is by Arii and is not easy to find. It was built pretty much out-of-the-box. I added flap hinges and an aerial. The decals were drawn originally in 1/48 by one of the honourable contributors to this forum but they wouldn't print on the Alps printer so my graphic designer son re-drew them in 1/72.

Ah, Hutt River brin gs back a few memories, I was in Perth ATC operations one evening shift, when we got a phone call from one of the princes stating that the safety of aircraft flying over their principality could not be guaranteed. It wasnt a threat just a statement, a bit of discussion ensued and I think we diverted aircraft to avoid the area that night.
A few months later Hutt River made an announcement they were going to commence international airline operations using ...wait for it.... Comet airliners, I have often toyed with doing a Hutt River what if Comet

Now that is cool! Kinda goes along with me seeing on FB today that a Piper PA-28 140 was used in the Bush Wars in Sth Africa - fitted with hard points and machine guns as well!

I'm the "honourable contributor to this forum" mentioned by Ed and digging this thread back up earlier today inspired me to do this, in 1/100 (VEB Plasticart) for myself and 1/144 for a mate. Thanks Wal!

Those Hutt River Comets are brilliant! Post the pictures when you have made one.
Maybe they should have a code other than VH. But HP is Panama, HR is Honduras and even HH is taken (Haiti).
Maybe H1 or A1?

Further to the Hutt Comet 4, as it is a "what if", if it were my project I would consider using the smart colour scheme / design of the sole Saudi Comet 4 which crashed with some of the royal family aboard I would use that design and modify it with the Hutt badges and titles. I mean he wanted to be the King right? he would copy this ight? :D
