Boeing 314

As a continuing obsession with making Boeing airliners I found that I had the Airfix and Minicraft boxings of this kit. They are from the same molds but the Minicraft kit has better decals so I used that one. (This means I have an Airfix Boeing 314 surplus to requirements if anyone is interested - it is missing one tiny piece that I pinched from it because the part from the Minicraft kit was eaten by the Carpet Monster. But if you're interested ...)

Despite its age this is a pretty decent kit and goes together without too much trouble.

Yes it is a Pan Am Clipper John.

I would love to do one of these in 1/72 but don't want to do a resin one.

I think that all Pan Am airliners were called 'Clippers', even their 707s and 747s.

What's wrong with resin, Ray? Anigrand offer the B314, Sikorsky 42, Martin China Clipper and the big Sikorsky flying boat in 1/72. From my experience with Anigrand kits they are relatively easy to make and usually accurate, which makes them all very tempting, but also be very big. That's the main problem so far as I'm concerned.

It's rattlecan Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Aluminium, Graeme. It makes a nice change from TS-83 and seemed to suit this flying boat better.

To be honest, Leigh. When I finish my Anigrand C-17 I think I will not build any more large resin kits, I have been scarred!!!!! The C-17 has been far from accurate.....

I would like to work on a few injection or even Vac kits for a while :D

Ray, I commend your dedication to finishing that C-17, it is a effort that might have been better spent by scratchbuilding
Leigh Anigrand's reputation for accuracy and ease of building is up there with Mach 2

You'd be right about the accuracy of some of the Anigrand kits, Graeme. At the moment I'm making their Boeing 307 which is not the easiest kit to build but somewhat easier than the F-Rsin kit. And, what's wrong with Mach 2 kits, I've made quite a few of them and have more in store. All I can say to the rest of you is, your'e spoiled by the quality of modern injection molded kits and YOU'VE GONE SOFT!
