Nigel Mansell's... BAe Hawk?

Postby Migrant » Mon Jul 15, 2019 11:46 am

The Airfix 1/72 Hawk 100 kit finished in a Williams-Honda Formula 1 scheme, inspired by this profile by Claveworks Graphics. Kit is OK, a bit basic and spoilt by that awful canopy with a huge thick MDC, and too wide for the fuselage. But ideal for a quick fun build, which this was intended to be. I didn't add much, apart from the intake lights and a few aerials, and the probe is made from hypodermic tubing.

That looks awesome man. I really like it. That site has a lot of cool stuff on it. There are so many nice WIF's on there that I plan to do. I'm currently (and when I say currently, I mean being a slack bastard) doing a 1/48 Macchi C.202 inspired by the following scheme

I just had a look at my build thread http://www.airliner-civil-aircraft-modeller.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=607&hilit=macchi and realised I've been doing it for almost 5 years. The stupid thing is, I could have it finished in a matter of days. So I think it'll be my mission when I get home to finish it off.

Very nice but the question is "Is NIgel in the front seat whinging about his back or is he in the back seat whinging about Piquet being in the front seat?".

Not being up with 1:48 I was wondering why substitute a Macchi for a Fiat and then upon searching found out somewhat surprisingly that there is not a main stream 1:48 G55 out there. Still the Folgore will look the part as it's probably a better looking aircraft.

The saddest part is that makes me feel so much better that others have things on the back burner too!

Still I think I'd hold the record of something being on the back burner since 1985 ... which if I recall correctly is the year before Mansell and Piquet drove the FW11.

(and yeah I've got a couple of Tamiya FW11s that I had good intentions of building too ... )

It's a Macchi cos I got the kit cheap. It's also one of Hasegawa's best kits but mainly cos of the price.

Looks great Mike, is the gun pod to 'eliminate' the opposition if they get ahead? :D
