Clipper Fleetwing Academy 1/72

Postby VH-WAL » Thu Jun 19, 2014 1:08 pm

Not my proudest moment had a few problems getting this together for a friend still I know what to do when I build one for myself.
It is loosely put together as it has to be broken up for shipping to Melbourne hence a few bits and pieces left of, she will sit on a stand.

Nothing wrong with that one at all Wal.
Nothing better than a classic big Boeing in a classic colour scheme.

Considering I may be acquiring a KC-97L from Graeme, what problems did you encounter Wally?

wing trailing edge is a bugger, do not glue it together and add to the wing as indicated by the instructions ( I read this tip too late and paid the price) rather glue the top trailing edge to the top wing piece and the bottom to the bottom, then join the halves together. I had to do so much filling and smoothing and that silver finish shows every goddam flaw! The engines have an extra cylinder! it looks really odd and has to be ground out. It is really challenging because they are invariably painted silver / natural metal, the fit of parts is ok but not perfect, eg nacelles you have fill, sand ,polish and rescribe (I didn't rescribe for this model life is too short for a "favour" build)

but it is an impressive model, you'll love it on your shelf
