1/48 Spitfire PR Mk.1A

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

WTF? I can't believe this has been hanging around for over 2 years    Anyways whilst I was waiting for primer to dry on the Supra and B-25 I decided to drag this out for a bit. It was almost at the priming stage and just needed the cockpit masked up. I had to fix a couple of little seams but generally it went really well. A few smaller bits need priming which will probably happen this weekend. I gotsta get this mofo off the shelf of doom and doneski :)

Another snail got some love this weekend. After a f&ck up thinning the acrylic primer with the wrong stuff and causing a HUGE mess in my airbrush, the whole model cave narrowly escaped being burnt to the ground    Anyways I got my sh!t together and got the primer on. I wanted to use white primer so as not to darken the Camotint too much so I'll see how it goes. I have also lost to undercarriage doors   There are resin ones available but none in stock ATM so I stole some from another kit. Next step will be to paint the Hataka Camotint over the whole thing :)

You gotta be f*&king kidding me. 3 years to the day and I still haven't finished this    Well I did a bit the other week consisting of respraying the Camotint after a mishap with gold paint drops all over it   Anyways I'm in the process of organising the appropriate SMS paints for the roundels as I'm gonna try to use my stencil cutter and paint em. What could possibly go wrong? :? :? :? As the conversion is for the Airfix kit, the sliding portion of the canopy doesn't fit too well. I have a few vacform PR XIX canopies that I wanna try to see if that works better. I really need to pull my finger out as it's not that far from being finished.

Almost 5 years since starting and 2 years from the last post? Well that's just a tad embarassing    I dgot SFA done on the F.27 today so I thought I'd carry on with this Spitfire. Now this has been almost finished for over 2 years and truthfully there wasn't much left to do. As far as the markings there's only 4 roundels, that's it. This has been the major hold up I think cos I wanted to use my Portrait Cutter to make the masks and paint them. I've just been too shit scared I'd f*&k it up. Well today was the day to find out if I was gonna screw this up totally. So firstly I drew and cut the roundels out of Tamiya tape sheet and placed them on the model. I really need to get some sheets that don't have the grid on them cos it makes it very hard to see where the machine has cut the masks.

At least with decals you can move them around relatively easily to get them in the right spot. Basically I got the masks in the spot that looked ok and hoped for the best. Apparently I mus've fluked it :o :o :o As you can see, I went a little heavy with the white on the fuselage roundels but the edge will be covered by the blue anyways. I did the wing ones second and didn't make the same mistake. Also, to make it so there wouldn't be a white ring at the edge of the blue painted circle, I made the white circles slightly smaller so there would only be blue paint right the the edge of the roundel. Hope that makes sense :? :? :?

Now the moment of truth....... the other colours.

I'm f&%king stoked with how they came out :D :D :D A few small touch ups were required and have since been dealt with. I'm sure not every attempt will turn out this good but I'll take it this time 8-) 8-) 8-) I think the colours, SMS Insignia white, red and blue look spot on to me as well. With a bit more practice with the Silhouette software I can see more painted markings in my future. So this weekend I hope to have the whole thing flat coated and the prop, U/C, exhaust and canopy on which will be the second long term shelf of doomer model (any model for that matter) finished this month and also this year :o :o :o :o As I have many "Shelfers" to choose from I'm not sure what'll be next. If I get another 2-3 shelfers done then I can contemplate starting something else. I do have a hankering to do another WHIFF racer and I do have 3-4 to choose from. We'll just have to wait and see
