A couple of C-130s (C-130A Firebomber and HC-130N)

A couple of C-130s (C-130A Firebomber and HC-130N)

I have been tinkering away at these for a little while, they are both original tool Airfix kits.

The first is a C-130A firebomber for the Angels of Mercy display (if it happens) which I started a while ago (green plastic). Originally I was not going to do much with the flight deck.

But then I was given a part-started kit and decided to fill the flight deck out, the second kit is the mustard plastic which had been started to be converted to an AC-130A
Image

I added cabinets and consoles from scratch using a DekLs C-130 interior decal sheet that had templates to make these up, of course, the Zvezda kit includes these parts so you don't have to make them. I also replaced the instrument panels with spare Italeri items and make new control yokes.

The C-130A buttoned up and some filling done

The second will be an HC-130N which is a Combat SAR aircraft or as the USAF website puts it 'dedicated fixed-wing Personnel Recovery platform' in an early livery.

I am also using Italeri props for the HC-130 and kit props for the C-130A. You can see the difference in shape here. They have been modified to fit the Airfix wing and still be rotatable

I am using the wings from the first kit on the HC-130 as the fuel tank slots had been filled on the HC-130's kit wings, wings are now on the HC-130, and some more filling is to be sanded away

Putty tidied up, rear control surfaces fitted and props test fitted

Very cool Ray, (and yes, the display will happen, it's just slid a year).

Thanks guys, I suppose both are eligible for the Angels of Mercy display since the HC-130 is a rescue aircraft.

The gear legs are on along with some more filling and sanding, and some future is on the clear parts in prep for masking. antennas are next and them some paint.

Masking complete on the HC-130 and some antennas and pitot tubes added

Paint started along with some more filling

Priming found some issues which were puttied and the main colour was added after masking the yellow sections. Not sure about the colour though

Repaint of the props is also underway

I repainted the old bird with something more appropriate to the correct colour and did some masking to add a splash of other colours.

Some more paint on and now I need to figure out how to make a guide that lives on the upper ramp door
