Czech Model F-80C Finished (with Glamour shots)

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

Cheers guys.

Adam, have you had a go of alclad? It is super easy to use and gives great results.

Yeah Eric I've had a go once with Alclad on my Frightning. I used polished aluminium, as the Lightning F.1's of 74 Sqn RAF were initially highly polished for their air show work in the early 60's. This made it toy like, so then had a crack at applying scratches (fail!), then I dry brushed Testors Metaliser over it to give a "tarnished" appearance. This kind of worked, so I was sort of on the right direction. I've seen how other modellers do this in a mottled way using a sponge - applying a lighter oxide effect to the natural "aluminium". What I really want to try to replicate is scuffs and scratches to the aluminium finish, so I want something more robust than Alclad. Tarnish/oxidation I can do, it's just those scuffs/scratches that I want to try to show.

Hi Adam,

I reckon Alclad is very robust. I polish the crap out of it with my dremel without a problem!

OK, last one before this one hits the display cabinet via the RFI section.

I have been experimenting with artists oils to blend the dust/mud of the earth in the corner of the base and the rusty look of the PSP. The PSP was painted Alclad Steel, and the earth work was a brown shade of acrylic.

The model is SO close to being finished. I took a break from it and got back into my Meteor, just so that I could attack the very final stage with a fresh set of eyes and hopefully not miss anything! Now all of the undercarriage doors and dropped speed brakes are in place, it looks alot close to the ground than in the last post that I put up a couple of days ago.

A very busy workbench, filled with 1/32 goodness.

I just finished the model and here it is before being placed in my now rather full display cabinet.

Will take some better shots soon.

Very very nice Capt. Eric!

The photo from above well illustrates your oxidizing/tarnish effect and I think you nailed it! Might have to have another look at this Alclad stuff!

Here is the Czech model F-80c depicted as the aircraft flown by Lt Roy Marsh, 80th FBS circa 1950 at Kimpo, Korea during the Korean War. It has one kill marking, that being a North Korean IL-10 that Roy shot down in this jet. I believe it crashed into a mountain after takeoff in 1951.

The model went together OK. Being a short run kit, it does not fall together like a Tamigawa kit but with a bit of care and time it can be made into a nice model and I was very happy to include it in my collection.

Mods

RATO mounts, lower fuselage
AMS cockpit
Modified Fisher Panther exhaust
ZM-1000lb bombs
Scratchbuilt bomb pylons and sway braces

Base:
True details PSP resin base

Painted using Alclad over a polished Tamiya grey Fine primer base. I used a 50/50 mix of Tamiya Semi gloss clear and clear in order to give it a polished metal look that may have seen a bit of action.

Kit decals

Built over a 4 month period (although it spent 3 months on the shelf of doom)
