Thanks Adam! To answer your questions, I've actually used 81/82/65 on this one. General consensus seems to suggest that the early prototypes at least were finished in 65 on the lower surfaces. This one is a later prototype though, and probably should be 76 on the bottom. However, I used Mr. Paint colours on this one (far and away the best paints for airbrushing I've ever used), but their RLM 76 represents the late war 'sky green' type, which to me wouldn't have been appropriate at all. So, I used their 65 instead, which, if comparing to the Gunze colours, seems to be somewhere in between their representations of 65 and 76. It looks pretty convincing on the model, anyway!

Your big gunned Arrow is spectacular I think. Using a 65/76 underside for this aeroplane is something we'll never know for sure and using a shade in between is a great idea - paints fade over time in any case. What starts out fairly blue in the factory ends up a chalky grey/white when left to the elements. I did find this photo in my research of a pre-production "A", perhaps the only colour photo of these very late war Arrows. I painted mine (the Tamiya 1/48 "A" which you saw at Expo) in Gunze and I think their 82 is too green, not olive enough.

The early prototype Arrows to me appear to have the older and darker "bomber" shades - no doubt from Dornier paint stocks. The "at war end" later pre-production Arrows look to have the spec'd RLM paint schemes. All but one Arrow ended up scrapped or crashed, so we'll never know exactly what each and every finished Arrow was painted exactly - meaning everyone is right!
