Welcome all to the first official Challenge Build here on ACAM. The kit this year is the Airfix 1/144 Boeing 737-200. You can do any colour scheme and the idea is to all finish and enter in Airliners at Model Expo 2019. The winner, the lucky modeller who doesn't forget their reference and scores the highest points in the official judging will get bragging rights for the year ahead and maybe something else yet to be determined.

The idea is just to have some fun, build a few models and enter to support the categories that Ray sponsors. You can use this thread to post pictures of how you're going, post a photo or any reference of 737's you are doing or just generally psyche out the competition...psyche....

Well being off work crook as a dog has it's advantages. I started my Aerolineas Argentinas 737 today. I'm using a very old boxing and have ordered the decals today as well. Here's where I'm at as we speak.


Gotta fill all those bloody windows so in went the clear strip windows. Once they're dry, I'll sand them all flush with the fuse.


After gluing all the doors in slightly proud of the fuse (they'll be sanded flush soon) and adding a couple of sinkers for nose weight, the fuse halves went together. I also got the wings together as well. A tip for those playing at home. When fitting the outboard flap track fairings, cut the locating pins off and glue with the trailing edge. If you don't do this you'll end up with a gap between the trailing edge of the wing and the flap fairing. I didn't do this on my Ansett one I built and it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Well that's it for tonight. I sanded the panel lines, doors and windows then tried out my sprue goo for the first time for filling gaps. Until tomorrow.........

So awesome huh? And what of the sink marks above the cockpit? The finish you got on you Finnish freighter was amazing. If mine comes out half as good as that one then I'll be happy. I guess that's why we're modellers and not just assemblers

Sanded all the sprue goo flush and it worked pretty well I must say. I'll be using it again that's for sure. However there's a few pin holes for want of a better word left after sanding the sprue goo. So a thick coat of Mr Surfacer 500 over everything and we'll see how it looks after I've sanded that back. Oh and that windscreen is gonna need some filling This kit was partly started as someone had fitted the cargo doors and the rear lefthand pax door which wasn't done very well. Therefore the rear pax door is too far in so I'll glue some .010" styrene sheet in there then sand it all flush again. Having a ball with this but that'll do for today. Cmon you lot. Get stuck in will ya's

BTW I must ask, why do airliner modellers mostly fill and decal the windows, where military modellers tend to keep windows and cockpit glass clear even in small scales? With me I'd probably be painting around the windows then making them out of liquid glue or using the kit supplied clear while masking and painting the frames.
