My observations:
PROS
- It has the later GE engine variant (ala TAA/Australian/QANTAS) - Airfix has the early version
- It has the belly A/C intakes (as seperate pieces) - which Airfix missed
- Engine intake lips are seperate single pieces to minimise seems and assist detail painting
- Optional flightdeck if you want clear windshields instead of decals
- Wheels moulded in halves so ejection pins don't ruin their surface
- Aerials and drain masts are separate pieces instead of moulded-in-place
- Panel lines are engraved (not raised like Airfix) and they are not overdone
CONS
- No alignment pins or structural bulkheads like Airfix
- Engine pylons only have one small pin to positively locate them to the wing
- Probably the price!
Eastern Express do plan a P&W engine version too.
Also, if you haven't seen the 747SP sprue shots, just scroll up that same page!
Cheers!
Scott.
(Still at QANTAS... for now)
