Sunbird Services PBY-5 Catalina

Postby Cap'n Wannabe » Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:54 pm

Hey folks..
I recently acquired Monogram's 1/48 PBY-5. Unfortunately it appears to be the wrong version for an Aussie wartime Catalina, which my great uncle flew during WWII (only recently found that out..).
I've been having a look online, and found some images of TAA and QANTAS Cats, some PBY-5's, and some 5A's. Can anyone confirm if Sunbird Services operated the PBY-5?

Thanks!
Pretending to do it TAC style with the big boys since 1987
Also, we don't need no steenkin' VLATs!

VH-SBV was built as a Canadian Vickers OA-10A (equivalent of a PBY-5A)
When it arrived in Port Moresby to commence service, it had its undercarriage removed and faired over as a weight saving measure, thus externally becoming PBY-5 spec.

You could do one which was Australian, military and civil. Qantas operated several on the Double Sunrise service.
