Unfortunately yet another case of someone blowing their trumpet just because they sharpened their Pencils today in an effort to justify their multi-million dollar bonus.

From the Article what this bloke says makes sense :

Tony Lunn designed the biggest re-fresh of time in 1984, with the dropping of the wings and developing the triangular motif that was perfectly in sympathy with the shape of aircraft tails. It was balanced, dignified and iconic. Hans Hulsbosch ruined it 8 years ago by mangling the kangaroo and putting everything out of balance – Tony Lunn commented at the time that it was the essence of ‘inelegant design’ as he and his team had spent months trying to get the balance right while maintaining the basic shape of the old kangaroo (minus wings). This is even worse. The typeface pays zero tribute to Qantas typefaces over the years, the kangaroo is far too stylized and that childish ‘tail shaped’ logo with an anemic ‘QANTAS’ underneath it looks ridiculous – none of the grace and style of the 1984 logotype where the negative space around the kangaroo was equal on all three plains, the tip of the tail, the foot and the nose all touched at the mid-point of the triangle and the word QANTAS was precisely half the height of the triangle and the same height as the highest point of the kangaroo. Marc Newson is a good designer but he should stick to pyjamas and aircraft interiors. Sorry, but I have design background and this will date very, very quickly. It’s not unique anymore, just like any other company design. If Pan Am were still going do you think they would have rubbished their blue globe like this??? Has KLM dropped it’s light and dark blue and crown logo??? The best I can say about this is it’s not the Hulsbosch monstrosity and at least they won’t be taking credit for Tony Lunn’s design.

I should add too that I think some of the talented people on here (and some of the other modelling Forums) could have come up with a much better scheme and it probably would have only cost Qantas a free flight or two and/or some free kits to get permission to use!

I like it. The nose roo just needs the wings! Let's hope we don't have to wait 10 years to get decent decals!

Well reminds me of the Country and Western song, by Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs

I would have wrote you a letter but I couldn't spell yueech

Is that a creature from the new Avatar movie?
Artistic interpretation of a 'roo, if you are 10 sheets to the wind, and have two 'glass eyes, and your peg leg only lets you turn counter clockwise.

I'm a bit worried now, in that it has been a tradition when changing colour schemes, especially for US airlines, to then go belly up.
Throwback to the really unloved Aussie flag scheme on Ansett.

I think Rolls Royce might sue...

But seriously,

I was just speaking with Peter Mahoney (who was concluding negotiations with the Qantas licencing people), and the general feedback from the public and staff alike was NEGATIVE.

There may very well be a "tweak or two" to come - possibly just keeping the current 'roo!

Scott.

Guys,
Whilst all views and opinions are noted and respected, can I just ask that we be mindful of who this site's major supporter is.
Thanks

Nothing wrong with saying it looks like crap mate. IMHO it does look crap. The Roo looks like it's been left out in the sun to melt and someones realised that it's been out there too long. It's an opinion, whether it's positive or negative. No one was slagging them off. Most people liked the retro roo 1 and 2 and that opinion was expressed. They can't have it both ways. I think QF is big enough not to take some criticism from a bunch of modellers. Call it constructive criticism :? :? :?
