Happy 100th Birthday Qantas

Postby tor lives » Mon Nov 16, 2020 12:43 pm

On behalf of A/CAM, I just want to congratulate Qantas on its 100th Birthday.
What an amazing milestone and achievement.
Here is to your next 100 Qantas, and thank you for your continued support of our humble little model site.
We haven't been around as long as you, but you have been with us from day 1.

TOR’s celebration of the QF centenary inspired me to contribute my own celebration, which is something that I’ve been working on for several years - making models of all the main Qantas airliners. I’ve started the series with the beginning of Qantas Empire Airways in 1934 because my modelling skills don’t extend to making DH-50s, DH-61s and the like in 1/144. That’s the theory anyhow.

So this is what I’ve made so far.

Starting with a C-Class flying boat

There is a gap here for a Catalaina, LB-30 and Lancastrian which are all on the list of things to make real soon now.

Next a Lockheed Constellation

A Lockheed Electra will slot in here.

A Boeing 707-138

Now, a request for help. I’ve started work on the Arctic Decals deHavilland DH-86B but have run up against the road block of the QEA markings which are too difficult for my modest decal making skills. Has anyone got a suggestion about how I can take care of this problem.

Much as I admire the history of Qantas and their many great achievements I would never travel with them again. Some colleagues were abandoned by them when they shut down their services in 2011 - they have never travelled on Qantas again. A few years ago I had a MEL -S FO flight with a surly cabin crew on a second shift. The food was crap and we were given a patronising lecture about pre-ordering when the food choices were down to one. I emailed a complaint about 3 times and even wrote them a letter. Response? None at all.

Wow - that's a very basic kit! I'd second approaching Peter at Hawkeye
