Suffered a likely engine failure on take off while running up for Reno this year. Unfortunately, owner and pilot Sherman Smoot was killed in the accident. It's been a bad year for the Reno air racers, with Czech Mate going down before and then suffering a fatal accident in a Jets Gold heat when an L 29 crashed.

wow over a month after the accident.......and Sherm wasn't the owner .....for those of us that follow the Reno airrace's this was a tragedy...Sherm was a true fan of the sport and a great guy too boot and to loose them both has left a huge hole in the sport.....but equally as bad has been loosing a jet racer and L29 during race week.
