2 Days at Swiss Air Force Base Payerne

Postby VH-WAL » Sun Jan 26, 2020 2:55 am

I had 2 gruelling days snapping away at Swiss FA18 Hornets loaded for bear, providing Combat Air Patrols over Swiss airspace during the World Economic Forum meetings. We were running / driving around from vantage point to vantage point, on ladders, on mounds, on high ground, in church yards and atop the newly built civil (bizjet) terminal. Temperatures ranged between -5 to +5 degrees C. I got severely chilled to the bone at times. The second day was very misty and with a low cloud base, but it did provide a plethora of lighting conditions. I took lots of pics, I am throwing some up here and now as examples, over the next few weeks I will pick and process e best ones. Please enjoy this Swiss Hornet study.

I did enjoy these. Enough to make me want to make a Swiss F-18.

Great collection, I can just feel the cold in some of those shots, what's the story with the fuel tanks all being marked Stby 121.50?

Hi Graeme, have been too crook to answer.. been in high fevers for 8 days now, only now having any energy to do anything. The tank signage is an effective way of getting an intercepted aircraft to establish communications. I read up on procedures and protocols for interception of aiircraft, makes for interesting reading
