The Revell 1:144 Boeing 747 Classic is the best main-stream release in its scale.....much better than the Airfix interpretation of the same aircraft, and pisses all over that abomination from Nitto :? , (yet, in 1:100 scale, the Nitto 747-100 is simply superb.....go figure).

I used a lot of earlier pressing of the 747-100 when I was making 747s a few years back. While not as good at the Revell 747-400 they were pretty good for 1/144 and I'd by happy to buy some more if I needed them.

Cheers man. Guess I'd better acquire a couple. Always loved the old school QF scheme. How hard is it to convert a 100 to an QF SP?

A lot of work to make an SP Paul, There is an old FSM article floating around that details it. Fuselage needs shortening, rear fuselage reshaped and vertical stab increased in length and chord.

And then you need aftermarket rollers to replace the kit engines.

There's also a build thread on ARC where an SP conversion is/was being attempted.

Paul, there are several options available to you if ya want to get yourself a 1:144 747 SP.
As mentioned by Ray, in the March 1994 edition of Fine Scale Modeller magazine, a comprehensive article on converting a 1:144 Revell 747-100/200 into a Boeing 747 was published. I have you covered on this, (indeed I have already printed you a copy), but here is the article for your to ponder:

Your 2nd option is to try and track down the old, (and long OOP), Sasquatch 747 SP resin conversion fuselage for the Airfix 1:144 747-100/200.
Image
The reason the Airfix kit is good for this conversion is that you can use the wings virtually unmodified from the box, as the prominent trailing edge flap canoe fairings, (which are NOT a feature of the SP), are not cast into/onto the wing. If you really want to get technical though, you will need to bog and re-scribe the trailing edge flap arrangement, as the flap design on the SP was different, (and much simpler....basically a scaled-up 707 flap arrangement), to that of the "standard" 747.
Your will also need to get yourself a ship-set of short-body RR RB211s.

Your other option is to simply order a 1:144 Qantas 747 SP from Welsh Models.

Hope that helps

Hmmmm being a lazy prick I think the SP won't be getting done anytime soon. Thanks for all the info though guys. I may have to get a copy of that article off you though Ray :)
