From China Airlines Flt 006 to "Global Peace One"

Here's the story of one very interesting 747 - survived a transonic dive and religious nutters, but sadly looks not to survive the scrapper.

I still don't get worked up over scrapping aircraft. It's done it's job, paid for itself and now it's off to the recycling center.

Phew! Glad you're not "worked up" on this one Brad! :D Perhaps the older I get, the more misty eyed I get when a grand aeroplane gets torn apart

I just think it's a intriguing story - an aeroplane that somehow kept together (mostly) after that abuse involving up to 5G. I had no idea it was eventually purchased by a religious cult. Of course most aeroplanes get broken up for scrap - that is the nature of things.

Hey Ray, how about refurb'ing this grand 747 as a A/CAM runabout? :D I know, I know, the A/CAM runabout has to be a 7 Oh 7!

Just wait for all the enthusiasts to want to preserve every airframe because they are historic, or some such rubbish. I need some new pots and pans, lets melt this sucker down!

Hardly worth it at present - global glut of aluminium at the moment. Besides which, using aluminium to cook with gives you Alzheimer's disease doesn't it? Besides which - you don't cook do you?

I have heard that aluminium will be used more in car bodies - potential trend in Nth America I've been told, so potentially aluminium will be in demand more in the future - will that make you happy Ace?

I think you are missing my point on this story - just a story on a aeroplane, not some crusade to preserve it. It would make a great sales promo for Boeing

"Look what one bash artist pilot did to this aeroplane - and it still held together!".
"Boeing - we build 'em tough!".

Hey, I might be getting older, but at least I don't have alzheimers disease and I also don't have alzheimers disease. As for cooking, I'm a master in the kitchen. My porcelain damaging chilli is my signature dish.

A sale promo for Boeing huh, I can go with that one; Boeing: Our plans won't disintegrate when your pilot makes a howler!
