RAAF to get new C-17's & KC-30's?

Postby B_finch » Mon Aug 18, 2014 12:15 pm

Hi All,

Just seen this at Australian Aviation update.
Looks like the RAAF are set to get another 1-2 C-17s and propose an acquisition for a further 2 KC-30's with 1flagged to be fitted for VIP service.
I wonder if the VKC-30 will have the traditional VIP Colour scheme?

Seems like a great idea. Good to see a few purchases actually delivering good results :)

Once they work the boom out on the KC! ;)

The article quotes one of the KC-30s to be fitted out with a VIP interior. I expect it will have the same grey exterior. No ink to paper yet on this one since it is to be 'discussed' in the next white paper. So we probably won't see these new airframes for a few years yet.

Apparently the boom issues are just about sorted. Boom certification should be done by the end of this year.

Cool. Just in time for the F-35s. (and the C-17s and other KC-30s. Just like your WIP Ray).

Big tick from this tax payer! :D

On a side note, who would ever have thought we'd see a RAAF C-17 in the Ukraine. Did make me proud as a Aussie to see the rapid response by our government, Federal Police and the RAAF to the MH17 disaster. Very very well done to all those outstanding Aussies involved!

Very nearly the cause of the RAAF's first F-16 "kill" when the boom fell off one of our KC-30s and nearly hit a receiver Portuguese Air Force jet during trials.

Probably lots we don't hear about cos it makes bad PR. I reckon it's a cracker idea to get more of both types. We'd be stupid not to. Especially with C-17 production wrapping up soon. I reckon the C-17 will be like the DC3, Caribou and others in some ways. The only replacement for a DC3 is another DC3 :)
